چکیده

• Conventional catheter angiography is recommended for the diagnosis of VAI in selected patients after blunt cervical trauma, particularly if concurrent endovascular therapy is a potential consideration, and can be undertaken in circumstances in which CTA is not available. • Magnetic resonance imaging is recommended for the diagnosis of VAI after blunt cervical trauma in patients with a complete spinal cord injury or vertebral subluxation injuries.

Fatal Vertebral Artery Injury in Penetrating Cervical Spine Trauma

Study Design. This case illustrates complications to a vertebral artery injury (VAI) resulting from penetrating cervical spine trauma. Objectives. To discuss the management of both VAI and cervical spine trauma after penetrating gunshot wound to the neck. Summary of Background Data. Vertebral artery injury following cervical spine trauma is infrequent, and a unilateral VAI often occurs without ...

Significance of magnetic resonance imaging in the diagnosis of vertebral artery injury associated with blunt cervical spine trauma.

Vertebral artery injury associated with non-penetrating cervical trauma is rare. We report 11 cases of vertebral artery injury diagnosed with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) after blunt trauma to the cervical spine and discuss about the importance of MRI in the diagnosis of this injury. Seven cases were caused by motor vehicle accidents, three by diving accidents, and one by static compression...

Vertebral arteriovenous fistula: an unusual complication of Swan-Ganz catheter insertion.

The leading causes of trauma to the major craniocerebral vessels include penetrating and non penetrating trauma [1 , 2]. Because the vertebral artery is confined to the incomplete bony canal formed by the successive foramina in the transverse processes of the upper cervical vertebrae, it is less susceptible to penetrating injury than is the carotid artery [2]. A review of the literature has unc...

Delayed presentation of a vertebral arterio-venous fistula secondary to penetrating cervical trauma: endovascular management using coil embolisation - a case report.

Vertebro-vertebral arteriovenous fistulae occur infrequently. We report on such a case with delayed presentation following penetrating neck injury. This was successfully treated via coil embolisation. A 40-year-old woman presented with a subjective tinnitus that was abolished by turning her head to the right. She had sustained penetrating neck trauma 6 months earlier. Doppler Ultrasound and mag...

Spontaneus resolution of a traumatic vertebral artery pseudoaneurysm.

Injuries of the vertebral artery are rare and are usually seen after penetrating or blunt cervical trauma. Vertebral artery injuries (VAI) have been reported in 0.5% of blunt trauma cases. These injuries can lead to hemorrhage, thrombosis, arteriovenous fistula or traumatic pseudoaneurysm in the early or late period. They must be treated carefully due to their increased risk of morbidity and mo...
